About South Bend, IN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
South Bend's known for lots of things. It is home to one of the best-known private colleges in the country and is located on the St. Joseph River. The college is the main employer in the county and it employs close to 6,000 people. Though students, teachers and college staff abound, there are also many families and other businesses and commerce in the town and in the surrounding area. The river is beautiful and a walk along its coastline is an ideal way to spend a pretty spring or summer day.
In 1923, manufacturer and entrepreneur Vincent H. Bendix chose South Bend as the site of his automotive parts factory. He picked South Bend mostly for the reason that it was on a rail line halfway between Chicago and Detroit. Those, of course, were the two automotive manufacturing hubs in the nation at the time. Eventually, his company built a vast industrial complex on its South Bend acreage but, by the end of World War II, manufacturing began to diminish. Since the 1960s, education, healthcare, and small business have come to the forefront of South Bend's economy. It’s still a bustling community of hard-working people. Locals love it because it is family-friendly, the weather is seasonal and it is just small enough to feel like home but big enough to keep residents entertained and excited about life.
The Annual All Day Country Concert, with over 37,000 free tickets, is held each year in early September. Annually since 2013, the town has hosted “Sounds by South Bend,” which is a celebration of the local music scene. The South Bend Museum of Art, opened in 1996, is situated in Century Center. The museum features an assortment of artists from around the area. Warm weather calls for outdoor festivals and music while the cooler seasons are the perfect time to check out the many local indoor attractions, particularly the museums and historical sites.
